This is in response to your
question regarding the installation of the ½" gypsum over
the gypsum and H-Stud and C track assembly. Specifically you ask if the
joints of the gypsum have to be over the H-Studs.
Yes.
Section 4.3.3, Field Erection, states in part: ... On each side, a layer of ½" Fireguard C gypsum board is screwed to the H-Studs and C Track with 1" type S screws 12" o.c.
The section requires the gypsum to be screwed to the H-Studs. The joints at the panel ends have to be screwed to the H-Studs for stability.
