The State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council Technical Subcommittees have been established and are currently reviewing the 2006 International Codes which should result in the 2009 codes. The technical subcommittees provide technical support to the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council, and assist the Code Council in reviewing the International Codes on a three year cycle. Albany Codes Council News - The first set of updates and amendments to the NY State Uniform Code (Building, Fire, Residential, Plumbing, Mechanical, Property Maintenance and Energy) along with a new Existing Building Code (which will replace Appendix K of the current Building Code) based on the 2003 ICC Codes was APPROVED by the Codes Council on March 22, 2007. The code changes will be effective 90 days following the date of publication of the Rule Making in the State Register. New Danger Label for Generators -The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voted unanimously (2-0) today to require manufacturers of portable generators to warn consumers of carbon monoxide (CO) hazards through a new “Danger” label. The label states that, “Using a generator indoors CAN KILL YOU IN MINUTES.” Manufacturers will be required to place the “Danger” label on all new generators and the generators’ packaging. Read more... Online Tool from UL - Underwriters Laboratories Inc., UL has introduced an online tool for regulatory authorities. The "Category Code/Model Code Database" is a powerful search engine that links Code sections to UL product categories, to view the new database, visit their website; enter a Code section from the International Building Code (IBC), (IMC), (IFGC) or the (NEC), and get the corresponding UL product category and listing information.
