High-Efficacy Bulbs
CFL's are high efficacy bulbs and the 2010 Energy Code provides a definition to support that (see below).

High-Efficacy Lamps. Compact fluorescent lamps, T-8 or smaller diameter linear fluorescent lamps, or lamps with a minimum efficacy of:
1. 60 lumens per watt for lamps over 40 watts
2. 50 lumens per watt for lamps over 15 watts to 40 watts.
3. 40 lumens per watt for lamps 15 watts or less

More than 200 Attend Code Update Seminar Nov 10, 2010
The Rochester Home Builders' Association would like to thank our partners at the Finger Lakes Building Officials Association for a very informative 3 hours. Members received information on the changes coming to the Residential Building Code, Energy Code, and the Electrical code. 2010 Edition of the NYS Fire Prevention and Building Code - The New York State Codes Division has announced that the 2010 Edition of the NYS Fire Prevention and Building Code will become effective December 28, 2010. There will be a transition period starting September 1, 2010. Between September 1 and December 28th, if you apply for a building permit, you will be able to choose between the current or new codes to use (but you cannot mix them). After December 28th, you will need to use the new code entirely.

Amanda's Law - Carbon monoxide alarm requirements to go into effect February 22, 2010... It requires essentially all residences, both new and existing, to have carbon monoxide alarms installed. The specific requirements differ for new and existing residences and also on when the buildings were built and subcategories of occupancy groups. Read more...

Now, through nyknowyourcontractor.com, the Office of the Attorney General
provides New Yorkers the tools they need to make informed decisions when it
comes to hiring a home improvement contractor. You can search to see which
contractors have been subject to legal action, and which contractors have

CEO Call for Action - Code Books are in jeopardy. This is a call for action to all Code Officials. The Code Council recently voted to adopt the next version of the International Codes which will be effective in the fall of 2009. There is concern that the New York State Department of State will not be purchasing code books this year. It is imperative that the funding be provided for code books for the next adoption cycle.
